Eglise Notre-Dame de l'Assomption appears in texts from the early 12th century as a possession of the Abbey of Lagrasse, which, like all the great "mother" abbeys of the period, greatly increased its hold around the year 1000.

We know that in the 14th century, the church of Besset still belonged to this abbey. Despite its age, the current architecture bears the imprint of numerous works carried out in the 19th century, notably the south porch, the repair of the roof and so on. Comparison with the Napoleonic cadastre also shows that the sacristy has been moved. The building has a simple plan: a single nave with a flat chevet and a three-bay bell tower-wall. The whole is lit by three narrow, three-lobed bays. Two 17th-century paintings adorn the chevet: La Mise au tombeau (with coat of arms of Bishop Pierre de Donnaud, late 16th-early 17th century) and La Nativité, signed "Saisac me fecit 1664".
